My big plans for 2010 seem to be falling apart around me and it’s only mid Jan. I had planned to enter the NW200 on a Super Stock bike in the Super stock and Super bike races. I was then going to hop on the ferry over to the Isle of Man for my debut at the TT again in the super stock, superbike and senior races. Due to the lack of racing last year I don’t qualify for my ACU mountain licence. So I had a little change of plan and my debut at the Isle of Man would be at the Manx GP in August on a 600 in the newcomers and Junior races and to ride in post classic on a pre 85 GSXR750. The post classic is still looking good but I still need to compete in six meetings before June 30th 2010 to get my mountain licence. I had planned to ride in the MRO Power bike championship but that’s looking unlikely now as the team I had hoped to ride with have other commitments for the up and coming year.

Things are not looking so good now, some of the open doors have closed and some are still ajar. I’m still waiting to hear back from some very important people and with only 6 weeks until the first round it’s looking like the Manx GP & NW200 could be a non starter. All I can do is hope that things come together soon.

From Northampton, the UK’s best female racer was forced to resort to her favourite mode of transport to get to Buckingham Palace on time.

Maria Costello, 32, jumped on a Virgin Limo motorbike and was driven to Buckingham Palace by World Endurance racer Damian Rowley to receive her MBE from the Prince of Wales in time - despite being dressed up for the occasion. Maria had no time to change into her leathers for the impromptu ride so rode on the bike in a short black skirt, matching jacket, sheer black tights and numerous strings of pearls around her neck.

The Isle of Man TT female world record holder paid tribute to her family, delighted that her parents Eileen and George and sister Tina made it on time to see her collect her award.

“This is the payback for what I put them through - all my injuries. It’s not a regular thing having a daughter who rides a motorbike. I’m just so glad my parents and sister were here to see me.”

Maria was awarded the MBE by Prince Charles for services to motorcycling. She said: ”The Prince said ‘Did you come by motorbike?’ and I said ‘Yes I did’.”

Well it’s been awhile since I’ve updated my site. 2009 has been a complete wash out for me in terms of racing. For various reason the one off rides that were offered to me at the begining of the year have failed to materialise. I’ve been approached for 2010 but so far nothing has been confirmed so it looks like it could be another bleak year ahead.

I’ve been keeping myself busy restoring my 68 Mustang and generally staying out of too much trouble.

It’s been awhile since I’ve updated my site as I was pretty busy with travelling towards the end of 2008, work the restoration of my Mustang, trailing riding in Portugal and a snowboarding trip.

Due the curreny economic climate it’s been hard for many teams and riders to find the finacial backing required to run any sort of race team. This has left me without a confirmed full time ride for this season. I have been approached by my old team manager Max Scholl from Uprite racing expressing an interest in competing in the Snetterton 6 hour as a one off along side John Crockford and another rider. The morning started well with a bright blue sky. First practice wasn’t bad either, I went 3 second faster than yesterday but still 2 off my time from last year. The changes we mad to the bike have helped with the turning problem but have made the rear very unstable especially on the brakes. For the second free practice we altered the rear to half way between last night and this morning. This improved things but I only completed 4 laps so no chance to improve my time.

I headed out for a 5 laps just familiarise myself with the bike and get a feel before putting a new rear tyre in. A quick stop for a tyre and a little more rear rebound and I was off again. The changes to the suspension helped control the rear through the fast direction changes and on the brakes. I managed one flying lap before my throttle cable snapped half way around the circuit. With a little paddling I coasted as far as I could, then the last 100 yards I had to push back into pit lane. By chance one of the team was waiting there; he pushed me back to the pit box. With only 5 minutes left of the session I had to call it a day leaving me frustrated and no real improvement in my time.

Night practice was cancelled due to torrential rain and thunder storms. Oh well at least I stayed dry.

My trip to Magny Cours started at 7am so I could be at Dover in time for he 10 o’clock ferry. Whilst I was waiting in the queue I bumped in to a former team mate Warwick Nowland who now rides for my 2007 team. The whole journey was pretty straight forward with no horrors on the M25 and notorious peripherique. I arrived at the hotel around 6 ish, jumped in the shower then headed off to meet my new team mate Jure from Slovinia for a spot of dinner.

I woke this morning to the sound of rain! Not good, my last outing in the rain ended with two broken fingers. Even though I go well in the rain, for a 24 hour is the last thing I want as you get very wet.

By the time our session started at 13:30 the track had dried enough for slicks but seemed to lack grip due to the rain the past few days. Some parts for the track hold moisture and can catch you out so I took it easy for the first few laps. We have a few problems to solve tomorrow, first of all the bike is difficult to turn in and through the chicanes and fast direction changes this really shows up. The second seems to be when you open the throttle mid turn the bike runs wide so exiting the fast 5th & 6th gear turns makes us hold back a lose time. All in in all it was a productive 2 hours for the whole team.

I have my fingers crossed for tomorrow to be dry as we have free practice, 1st qualifying and night practice.
